General Adoption Resources

Adoption.com. Provides links to adoption services in the fields of parenting, adoption, and legal services. This national registry contains listings by adoptive parents, adoption professionals (attorneys, clinicians, other professionals), and adoptive agencies.

Adoption Community of New England (ACONE). Conducts excellent workshops, has reading lists, referral networks, etc.

Bright Futures Adoption Center, Inc. Massachusetts adoption agency that provides adoption services to prospective adoptive parents and birth parents throughout Massachusetts, with a particular focus on working with children of color and special needs.

Carolina Adoption Services. International adoption agency based in Greensboro, North Carolina. It has placed more than 1500 children from Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America over the last decade.

Jewish Family Service of the North Shore. Massachusetts adoption agency that provides adoption services to prospective adoptive parents and birth parents throughout Massachusetts. It has programs for both domestic and international adoption.

Massachusetts Citizens for Children. Provides links with adoption tools, guides, resources, and organizations to contact.

National Adoption Center. Especially helpful regarding employer financial benefits for adopting parents.

RF Rudolph Friedmann LLP. Offers legal services in the fields of civil litigation, real estate, bankruptcy and insolvency, business and personal estate planning, bad debt collection, divorce, construction, hotel, restaurant and personal injury law, patent and intellectual property, and adoption law.

ART Resources

American Society of Reproductive Medicine. Provides information regarding reproductive medicine to prospective patients, professionals and others.

Assistedfertility.com. The Web site of Northeast Assisted Fertility Group (NAFG), which has offices in Massachusetts and New York and assists persons, such as intended parents, egg donors, sperm donors and gestational carriers, interested in family creation through assisted fertility.

Adoptionattorneys.org. The official website of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. It is very helpful in informing you about knowledgeable adoption attorneys in your state and area.

Resolve of the Bay State. Conducts excellent workshops, has reading lists, referral networks, etc.

Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. Provides information on and standards for assisted reproductive technology and helps prospective patients to locate and contact infertility clinics and view national and individual clinic IVF success rates.

Government Resources

Child Citizenship Act. An overview of the USCIS's revised process of issuing certificates and FAQ's about the Child Citizenship Act.

Child Welfare Information Gateway (formerly National Adoption Information Clearinghouse). The Child Welfare Information Gateway is the successor to the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse, which was established by Congress in 1987 to provide free information on all aspects of adoption including programs, research, legislation and statistics regarding the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and families.

IRS Adoption Tax Credit. Navigate to "Individuals and Forms." There are two adoption forms: W-7A and 8839 that pertain to tax benefits for adoption.

Passport Information. U.S. State Department information describing how to obtain a passport for travel

Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. Provides information about adoption, adoptee rights, and foster care. Also provides an up-to-date list of licensed adoption agencies. EEC's regulations, still printed as Office of Child Care Services regulations, can be purchased at the State House Bookstore (617-727-2834).

Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. Delivers services to abused or neglected children and coordinates foster care. Call 1-800-KIDS-508 and you will be directed to the DSS Adoption Unit in your region.

Social Security Administration. This site contains information about obtaining social security numbers for adopted children.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. On March 1, 2004, the service and benefit functions of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) were transferred into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as the U.S.Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS is responsible for the adjudication of immigrant visa petitions and naturalization petitions as well other immigration-related functions.

U.S. State Department. This site provides useful information such as country updates related to adoption issues and travel advisories.
